Paradise Inc., which operates foreign-only casinos in South Korea, said its casino revenue fell 6.1 percent in May in a row.
Those revenues were 13.88 billion won ($12.5 million) compared to 14.78 billion won in April. The May 2021 figure was also down 53.4% from a year ago, according to the latest data from Paradise.
Foreign-only casino operations in South Korea continue to face headwinds due to COVID-19 response measures across the country. Measures include so-called nationwide social distancing protocols and inbound travel restrictions that apply to non-nationals or non-residents.
Paradise’s gaming operations are at Walkerhill in Seoul, Jeju Grand on Jeju Island, Busan Casino in the southern port city of Busan, and Paradise City (file photo), near the main international airport serving Incheon’s capital city of Seoul.
In May, the company recorded 11.97 billion won, down 7.9 percent from the 13 billion won it achieved in April. That May tally was still down 56.1 percent from the nearly 27.28 billion won managed in May 2020.
Machine game sales reached nearly 1.9 billion won in May, up 7.3% sequentially but down 23.1% from 2.48 billion won achieved in May last year.
The May figure put the casino sales tally at nearly 96.73 billion won in the first five months of the year, down 49.6% from nearly 19.17 billion won achieved in the first five months of 2020.
Settlement in January-May 2021 was about 87.11 billion won, down 51.5 percent from 179.59 billion won in January-May last year.
Machine game sales for the calendar year to May 31 were 9.61 billion won, down 22.4% from 12.38 billion won a year earlier.
The amount of table drops in Paradise, the amount that customers exchanged for chips at the table, fell 17.8 percent from 165.63 billion won in April to nearly 136.1 billion won in May, down from the previous month.
