Toronto Blue Jays manager John Schneider praised Ryu Hyun-jin (36) for his first victory after elbow surgery.
Manager Schneider applauded, saying, “It’s very surprising,” for the pitching of “victorious pitcher” Ryu Hyun-jin after winning 11-4 against the Chicago Cubs in the 2023 Major League Baseball (MLB) held at the Rogers Center in Toronto, Ontario, Canada on the 14th
Ryu Hyun-jin, who underwent elbow ligament joint surgery (Tommy John surgery) in June of last year, played his third pitching game after returning that day.
Ryu Hyun-jin gave up two runs first in the aftermath of a fielder’s error in the first inning, but blocked the remaining four innings without losing a point. He effectively blocked the Cubs batters and allowed only two hard hits, and threw sharp changeups to increase the out count.
Coach Schneider said, “Ryu Hyun-jin has never collapsed much since his return. “I suppressed a strong blow in today’s game,” he said, adding, “After returning, I’m showing myself three times before the injury.”
Ryu Hyun-jin pitched in three games this season, recording one win and one loss and a 2.57 ERA, and lost four runs in five innings against the Baltimore Orioles on the 2nd, but scored no runs in two consecutive games against the Cleveland Guardians on the 8th and the Cubs on the 8th.
Toronto manager paid tribute to Ryu Hyun-jin as he played a big role without complications after surgery.
Coach Schneider said, “It’s amazing that you’re showing that at your age. It’s never easy, but Ryu Hyun-jin is doing it very easily. “I threw a really good ball.”
He raised his thumb, saying, “Ryu Hyunjin is a pitcher who can throw the ball well.”
