NC 24-year-old right-hander’s reflection, “The coach and coach must have been disappointed, so do I.” Why?

“Coach, I think you must have been disappointed. I was also disappointed.”
Victory came in 105 days. It is NC Dinos pitcher Shin Min-hyeok (24) who has the joy of victory, but also leaves 2% regret in his pitching .

Shin Min-hyeok had a good fight with KT Wiz in the 2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League held at KT Wiz Park in Suwon on the 11th in the 13th match of the season, 5 innings, 3 hits, 2 walks, 4 strikeouts and 1 run, and became the winning pitcher with the team’s 7-3 victory.

For Shin Min-hyuk, the victory on this day is meaningful. Shin Min-hyeok did not win for 105 days after his victory over the Hanwha Eagles on April 28th. There were days when he struggled, but there were days when he threw well. However, victory and kite did not reach.
On the 5th, his first appearance in August, against Changwon Kiwoom Heroes, he recorded his 4th quality start of the season (less than 3 earned runs in 6 starting innings) with 5 hits (1 home run), 1 walk, 4 strikeouts and 3 runs in 6 innings, but he did not become a winning pitcher.

However, on this day, the batting line exploded from the first inning, and Shin Min-hyeok’s shoulders were lightened. Shin Min-hyeok also pitched no hits until the 3rd inning, and except for the 6th inning, he showed clean pitching and added great strength to the team’s recapture of 3rd place.

After the game, NC coach Kang In-kwon congratulated Min-hyuk Shin, saying, “I want to congratulate Min-hyuk Shin, who became a winning pitcher after a long time since April.”

Shin Min-hyeok, whom we met after the game, said, “I tried to change my pitching style before entering the game. (Park) I think the reason for the victory is that Sehyuk talked a lot with his brother and got along well,” he said. And when the changeup was important, it fell well and the result was good,” he smiled.

He gave up only one walk until the 3rd inning, and did not give up a single hit to the tricky KT lineup.

He said, “Coach Kim Su-gyeong told me to hold the pelvis and throw it because my legs are wide open. It helped,” he laughs.
However, Shin Min-hyeok was not 100% satisfied with the pitching that day. This is because he came down the mound in a crisis situation in the 6th inning. In the 6th inning, he threw a ball that hit Bae Jeong-dae, the lead batter. A hit by Kim Min-hyeok and an RBI by Ahn Chi-young were timely hits, and the runners had to come down the mound from 1st and 2nd base safely.

Coach Kang In-kwon also said before the game, “I want to throw up to 6 innings rather than win. It must be frustrating, but if he pitches well, victory can be achieved. He wants to throw up to 6 innings.” He hoped to hold out until the sixth inning.

Shin Min-hyuk said, “When I went up to the sixth inning, I thought it was the first inning and tried to throw it. However, the ball shook as it hit the body. I don’t think that’s where the crisis came from,” he said. So do I. I learned a lot this time, so I won’t do it next time. “As much as I realized while throwing it, I think I’ll get better.”

He thanked Kim Si-hoon for preventing the crisis by coming up to the sixth inning with no outs and runners on first and second base, and Kim Si-hoon blocked Hwang Jae-kyun with a double play and Moon Sang-chul with a swing strikeout to prevent Shin Min-hyuk’s runs.

Shin Min-hyuk said, “Thank you very much. I promised him I’d buy him a meal. “I want to buy you meat,” he said with a smile.

There was no victory for 105 days, but I tried not to be impatient.
Shin Min-hyeok said, “Of course, I felt impatient because I couldn’t win. However, if he is a starting pitcher, it is important to digest a lot of innings. He didn’t really care about winning. It’s been a long time since I’ve won and I feel good, but the team won and I feel even better.”
